Project 1#: Dynamic composition

The focal point is the little shape near the center in the area of the rectangle according to the rule of third. Some lines converge to the focal point to guide the viewer to the focal point.
The unity is created by the continuity of lines which go through all the picture plane.
I tried to create an asymmetrical well-balanced composition. But they are some negative which are not activated especially on the left side of the picture plane and they are too much visual weight on the right side of the picture plane.
I am not satisfied on how I cropped the picture. Some lines converged outside the picture planes therefore the viewer will look outside the picture plane.
I used different size of pitt pens in a professionalism manner. I took precise measures to mount my drawing to the Bristol board and I cropped precisely the picture of my drawing.
Project 2# : Repetition, Photography & the grid

I took picture of pieces of jeans. I compose my grid in a geometrical way. I tried to perfectly aligned the pictures. I chose a small space between the pictures. The texture of jeans, the stitches, the different values of blue are important components of repetition that gives its unity to the composition. The stitches who are sometimes straight lines or curvy lines, the wears and the folds lead the watcher throughout the pictures.
By taking close- up of jeans, I emphasized the lines and the different textures as if they were part of a landscape.
If I had more time, I would have taken more picture, I would have tried different arrangement and I would be more precise when I cut and glue the pictures. Sometimes I did not cut straight and the gap between is not all the time equal.
Project #3: Variation of line

The Focal point is the biggest white circle around the intersection between the top horizontal line and the right vertical line according to the rule of thirds. I gave a sense a flow by all the converging lines that makes the watcher see the all picture plane in a smoothly way. I used three different lines. One is a implied line which looks like stichtes. Another is kind a thick line with cercles in it created by negative spaces. The third one is more geometrical line. I used overlapping. The thick line with cercles is on top of the others lines. I also played with the size of the white cercle and the thickness of the line to create a sense of space. I would have tried to create more sense of space by more obvious overlapping. I would have drawed in a more careful way. I would draw thumbnail sketch exactely like the final drawing.
Project 4#: Directional dominance

The primary focal is the big diamond shape in dark value. This shape is on one of the vertical according to the rule of third.
I repeated the triangle shape. The use of line (thick lines, dark shapes), and the connection between the different part of my composition help me to create a visual flow.
The directional dominance is made with the thick lines. I created different directional conflicts (Thick lines and negative space, dark scribbling shape and thick lines, Fine lings and negative space).
I tried to use a large range of values. Maybe, I lack middle value to enrich my drawing. I changed the space between lines throughout the picture the plane.
If I had more time, I would have worked on the composition (thumbnail sketches) to activate every part of the picture plane.
Project #5: Black & white shape compositions

The figure is the positive shape whereas the ground is the negative space meaning space between the positive shape.
You can create figure/ground relationships by mixing concave and convexe shapes.
I assume that quite create a balance between black and white shapes.
I created a figure/ground Relationship with the shape in the middle of my design ( with the cross).
I could improve this design by continuing playing with the distance between the space (large, small,…)
Project #7: organized the random

My constraints were the use of reinforcement stickers and geometrical shapes, emphasis on visual texture and rythme.
I incorporated the 3 design words by overlapping stickers, variation of texture to give a sens of rythme. I also played with the ground and the shapes as texture or not and as black or white.
My drawing includes a large range of value and variation of line and variation of line mark-marking.
I would have liked to change the part on the left side. They are too much black weight that compete with the focal point on the upper right side of the rule of thirds center rectangle. I would have added more reinforcement stickers do decrease the black area.
Project #8: Value-self portrait collage

I tried to avoid outlines throughout the all collage. I used a large value range from white to black with 7 middle tones. My self portrait collage tends to look like the picture I used to build my collage. I could continue to be more precise in the cut of my value shape especially around the eyes and the hair on the left side.
Project #9: Color studies
Hues are the colors on the color wheel whereas colors are the names given by brands. They are much more colors than hues. Each color belongs to a certain hue.
You tint a hue when you add some white to the hue. You shade a hue when you add some black to the hue.
Analogous color sheme is a group of hues near each other on the color Wheel.
Complementary colors are the colors that are opposite on the color wheels meaning the most far away from each other on the color Wheel. You create a neutral gray when you mix two complements together.
When you put 2 complements next to each other, you create a simultaneous contrast. Because the two colors are the most far away on the color wheels, you create a higher contrast.
Saturation is the brightness of the color. Colors straight out of the tube are the most saturated colors. You de-saturate a color by mixing with gray or her complement.
Project 10 Color shemas

Final project
My focal point is on the intersection right upper corner of the rule of thirds. The horn shape with light value is surrounded by a shape with dark value. I established a flow with a lot of shapes that goes to the focal point and by the repetition of those shapes. I played with the shapes by overlapping them. I tried to pay attention to use complementary colors .
My adjective was affectionate. I used warm colors, curvy shapes to create a sensation of warm feeling. I also used cold color to contrast with the warm colors. I do not think I successfully convey my concept.
I did not work enough on my thumbnails top convey my concept. I did not take enough time to draw my composition on the large paper. I worked directly with the colors without thinking about the color palette I will use. I am satisfied by some part of my design but with the whole design.
